As we age, our metabolism slows down and this can lead to unwanted fat accumulation in some areas that won’t go away despite regular exercise and a healthy diet. Liposuction is an excellent solution. During liposuction, unwanted fat is sucked out of the body using a cannula. Liposuction is usually performed on the abdomen, arms, chest, buttocks and back.

Traditional liposuction requires general anaesthetic and is a surgical procedure. During the operation, excess fat is removed through a hollow cannula. A saline solution is injected into the treated area during the procedure.

Vaser liposuction uses ultrasound, which is sound waves that help break up fat deposits. The sound waves heat the fat under the skin, breaking it up and causing it to liquefy. This protects the surrounding tissue.  The emulsified fat (fat cells and fluid) is aspirated through a small cannula.  This procedure provides a gentler method of fat removal, resulting in less trauma to blood vessels and skin.

Is anaesthesia required?

Vaser liposuction requires a general anaesthetic. However, if the area to be treated is relatively small, a local anaesthetic may be preferred.

What are the advantages?

Vaser liposuction provides a less traumatic result and removes stubborn fat. All forms of surgery can cause bruising, but because vaser liposuction technology is a gentler way of removing fat from the body, in most cases the amount of bruising is minimised and recovery can be quicker.

Recovery after application

Recovery time will of course vary from person to person as you may have a very small area treated or a large and numerous area. In general, patients are advised to avoid exercise for at least a few weeks. Depending on the area treated, it may be necessary to wear compression garments for several weeks. Patients with non-strenuous jobs can return to work within a few days.

Arms

Because fat tends to accumulate in the upper arm area, and because this fat is almost impossible to remove over time, it is the perfect place to see the benefits of liposuction. However, liposuction can remove this fat and give your arms a more youthful and smooth appearance compared to the rest of your body.

Waist and hips

The waist and hips are common targets for liposuction. Sometimes liposuction can be performed in combination with tummy tuck surgery and in both cases you will be left with a firmer, slimmer and more appropriate physique to your overall appearance.

Legs and thighs

The legs are a great place to see the excellent results of liposuction. Due to a slower metabolism caused by age, unwanted fat accumulates in the legs and thighs, which can be difficult to eliminate, even with adequate exercise. With liposuction, you can also achieve excellent results in the legs and thighs.
